Chris Leupold, Ph.D.
Chris brings over twenty-five years of consulting experience in both internal and external roles. An Industrial/Organizational Psychologist with expertise across a range of leadership and organization development areas, he provides clients with tailored solutions in the areas of executive assessment, individual coaching, succession planning, team optimization, and performance management and training systems. In all of his projects, Chris employs a scientist-practitioner model by which the interventions he provides are grounded in data-driven analyses to ensure maximum impact for individual clients and their organizations. Some of his clients include The Home Depot, Capital One, Nike, Guardian, Illinois Tool Works, Ford Motor Company, LensCrafters, Lowe’s, and Amway.
A permanent faculty member at Elon University, Chris is the Isabella Cannon Professor of Leadership as well as a full Professor of Psychology. In these roles, he teaches The Psychology of Leadership, Leadership & Organizational Development, and Team Optimization, amongst others. In addition to teaching, he maintains an active research program, speaks at professional conferences, and has published articles in journals such as The Psychologist-Manager Journal, The Journal of Managerial Issues, and most recently in the esteemed Leadership Quarterly. He also serves as reviewer for multiple academic journals, is on the Editorial Advisory Board for the Journal of Leadership Education, and is the Associate Editor for the organizational behavior track for The European Management Journal.
Prior to working at EDC and Elon University, Chris held positions at The Home Depot and Personnel Decisions International (PDI) focusing on leadership development, executive coaching, succession planning, and organizational development and worked with clients from a broad array of industries.
Chris received his B.A. in Psychology from the University of Notre Dame, his M.A. in Industrial/Organizational Psychology from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, and his Ph.D. in Industrial/Organizational Psychology from Wayne State University. While at Wayne State, he also completed a concentration in advanced research design and statistics. He is a member of the Society for Industrial/Organizational Psychologists, the American Psychological Society, and the Society for North Carolina Industrial/Organizational Psychologists.
Originally from New York, he currently resides in North Carolina. He is married and has three children, and is an avid skier, college football fan, and baseball historian.
